Congratulations on embarking on the journey to establish your massage therapy business! Starting your own massage therapy business is a big deal. We highly recommend using this checklist as your compass to ensure you have all the necessary tools for success.
Massage Table and Accessories
- Stationary massage table or hydraulic (more expensive and very heavy)
- Massage stool or a massage chair
- Chair for your client
Client Comfort and Ambiance
- Bolsters (at least 24 inches wide) and pillows (have a variety of pillows, thick, thin, and wide)
- Music player and speakers
- Ambient lighting
- Blankets, cushions, or eye masks
Massage Linens
(You need enough sheets to last you at least a couple of days if you do laundry on-site)
- Fitted sheets
- Flat sheets
- Towels (Large and small)
- Face cradle covers (Disposable, Washable)
- Pillow covers
- Blankets or fleece pads
Massage Lubricants
- Unscented massage oil (Cryoderm, Biotone)
- Scented massage oil (e.g., lavender, eucalyptus)
- Hypoallergenic massage lotion
- Massage cream
- Massage gel
- Massage holster

- Heated pad or table warmer

Hygiene, Sanitation, and Cleaning
- Box of tissue (Kleenex)
- Sanitizing wipes
- Hand sanitizer

- Masks (if needed)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Mouth wash

- Paper towels
- Hard surface cleaner
- Lint roller
- Vinegar (for cleaning)
- Broom and dustpan

Storage and Organization
- Storage cabinets or shelves
- Towel warmer (crock pot can work as well for up to 3 towels)
- Protective sheet for table

- Massage therapy business license
- Massage therapy certification
- Liability insurance (must join a Massage Therapy Association)
- Clinic management software (scheduling system, bookkeeping system, point of sale (POS)
- Intake forms and SOAP notes
- Massage Therapy Website (logo, company name, booking information)

- Computer and payment processor
- Clock or timer
Therapist Attire
- Professional therapist attire
- Scrub top (for comfort)
- T-shirt
- Closed shoes (for stability)
- Hair clip
- Deodorant
- Change of clothes (if needed)
