Join us for the Fundamentals of Oncology Massage Level 1 course designed to take the fear and misunderstanding out of providing massage to individuals who are living with cancer or have been through cancer treatments.
After this course, you will have:

- Acquire knowledge of biomedical cancer treatments and the adaptations to pressure, site, duration, and position necessary to offer safe massage.
- Enhanced critical thinking skills necessary to work with a client with cancer
- A checklist of how to recognize lymphedema and when to refer out
- Introductory knowledge of integrative cancer care.
Increasing rates of cancer and survivorship require knowledgeable and skilled health care practitioners who can safely work with people with cancer. Fundamentals of Oncology Massage Level 1 will give you the foundation to support oncology patients and cancer survivors confidently.
This course is a prerequisite to the 3-day Oncology of Soft Tissue Manipulation Level 2 course. Once both levels and the exam have been completed, you will be an SFH Oncology Certified therapist.
What will you accomplish and acquire from taking this course?
You will become confident in knowing more about what precautions and adaptations are required to carry out a safe treatment and when to refer cancer patients.
Learn the enhanced knowledge of common oncology terminology, oncology treatment protocols, and side effects to enable effective communication with clients and other health care professionals.
A way to explain to patients and colleagues the research-based benefits of oncology soft-tissue manipulations (and what claims we can not make).
A list of educational and service-based resources for you and your cancer-diagnosed patients.
Upon Level 1 Course Completion:
You can request proof of attendance that you can submit to your association for credits. Upon registration, make sure you enter your information correctly to ensure this happens. We collect your email address, first name, and last name (please give us the name you wish to have on your proof of attendance ).
Who should take this course?
All health care providers who work directly with oncology patients are welcome to take this course. Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Nursing staff, Massage Therapists, Acupuncturists, Athletic therapists, kinesiologists, Manual Osteopaths, and Osteopaths.
2nd Year Massage Therapy students who have completed Pathology are welcome.
