Become Certified as an SFH Oncology Therapist

Fundamentals of Oncology Level 1

Our one-day Fundamentals of Oncology course takes the fear and misunderstanding out of providing soft tissue manipulations to individuals who have had a cancer diagnosis or are actively affected by cancer. Fundamentals of Oncology offers a service for the fast-growing need to train health care providers to provide clients with ongoing and post-treatment soft-tissue care. This path will give you the foundation to support oncology patients and cancer survivors through hands-on support confidently.

Oncology Soft Tissue Manipulation Level 2

Prerequisite for Level 2: Fundamentals of Oncology Level 1

(Unless you have recently taken an oncology course or previously taken our Massage for people living with Cancer course)

Become proficient with the manipulation of soft tissues with patients affected by cancer. Oncology Soft Tissue Manipulation course is a 3-day long course predominately hands-on. Based on Canadian Cancer Society standards, this highly anticipated course is designed to provide all Health Care providers with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively provide soft tissue manipulation. Addressing the fear and misunderstanding of providing soft tissue manipulation to individuals who have had a cancer diagnosis, participants will gain insight into the mechanism behind cancer spread and how, with proper assessment and adaptations, muscle and joint manipulations can be very beneficial to this population. Some pre-reading of theory material is required.

Course description:

Rejecting a cancer patient for soft tissue therapy will no longer be an issue. Become an SFH Oncology therapist and become that provider of safe care and soft tissue manipulation.

Our SFH Oncology program has been constructed based on Canadian Cancer Society standards. This highly anticipated course is designed to provide all Health Care providers with the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively provide soft tissue manipulation. Addressing the fear and misunderstanding of providing soft tissue manipulation to individuals who have had a cancer diagnosis, participants will gain insight into the mechanism behind cancer spread and how, with proper assessment and adaptations, to execute muscle and joint manipulations.

Become a certified SFH Oncology therapist by completing both levels and passing the exam. Fundamentals of Oncology Level 1 and Oncology Soft Tissue Manipulation – Level 2

Proof of Attendance versus Certification

  1. Students complete our classes and receive our “proof of attendance.” They still receive the allotted amount of credits specified by their association and do not need to complete an exam.
  2. Students complete our “Certification” after they successfully write our exam.  If they pass all exams required (if more than one), then they will receive a final SFH certificate stating that they completed all requirements to be a “Certified Therapist.”

SFH Certification requirements (as of 2020)

  1. Students must be present for the whole duration of the course length to become certified.
  2. Students must participate and safely execute all hands-on components of the course.
  3. Students must pass the final written exam.

Please note that the instructors have the right to ask the students to execute any hands-on component at any time. Refusal will deny you from the exam process and, subsequently, your certification.

SFH instructors hold the right to refuse students from writing the final exam if they feel that the participant cannot safely perform the material despite adequate training.

Upon class Completion:

You will receive an email, including an electronic version of your proof of attendance. Upon registration, make sure you enter your information correctly to ensure this happens. We collect your email address, first name and last name (please give us the name you wish to have on your proof of attendance).

Upon Certificate Completion:

You will receive an email that includes an electronic version of your certificate and instructions on how to promote your new skill set and service. It can take up to three weeks to receive this email. When registering, please make sure you enter your information correctly. We will require an email address, first name and last name (please give us the name you wish to have printed on your certificate).

We will directly submit your certificate to the following associations: MTAA, CMMOTA, CRMTA, & NHPC.

Pre-purchased official certifications will be mailed to you three weeks after you have passed the exam. Please do not call the office to find out your results.

Thank you Linda and Seminars for Health, for bringing workshops to Grande Prairie. Just completed a weekend of OM courses and have to say it was one of the best courses I have taken to date. The instruction was clear and Linda made sure we were comfortable and confident in the new skills we learn. I can’t wait to start using these new techniques in my treatments.
